The FreeBSD daemon is off to do battle: In the name of Christ!

Its here. It rules. No one knows.
This could be said of a few things but in the world of operating systems, it is now time to toff the hat to FreeBSD. FreeBSD has become the superset.
We've used them all - yes, even Windows and Mac, not to forget OpenBSD and Linux. Here is what we wanted in a perfect operating system:
- OpenBSD PF
- A decent file system that is efficient and survives power failure/crashes and provides software raid.
- 100% encrypted disks, secured by keys.
- BGP, OSPF, GRE, routing, nats.
- OpenVPN
- IPSEC
- TCP relays
- Virtual containers (Linux VServer)
- Full Virtualization (run Windows in a window)
- incremental backup
- Fast, secure web service (nginix)
- Lisp
- Qmail for SMTP
- Secure remote desktop
We can go on. To get the above, it took VMware plus Linux plus OpenBSD. All replaced now with FreeBSD.
Bye bye Linux
The 3.7 series kernels with Linux Vserver did it for us. The new cgroups based memory management ran out of memory - on a 256 GB RAM system whilst it was not using more than 40.
Security in an age of Stuxnet and Solitons
Ever wondered how a computer controlled train that cannot over-speed, oversped?
Getting off the internet
http://www.groklaw.net/article.php?story=20130818120421175 "My personal decision is to get off of the Internet to the degree it's possible. I'm just an ordinary person. But I really know, after all my research and some serious thinking things through, that I can't stay online personally without losing my humanness, now that I know that ensuring privacy online is impossible. I find myself unable to write. I've always been a private person. That's why I never wanted to be a celebrity and why I fought hard to maintain both my privacy and yours. ..."
Secure email shuts down
Not one but two -
First Lavabit:
"I have been forced to make a difficult decision: to become complicit in crimes against the American people or walk away from nearly ten years of hard work by shutting down Lavabit," Ladar Levison, the company's head, wrote in a letter posted on the site. "After significant soul searching, I have decided to suspend operations. I wish that I could legally share with you the events that led to my decision. I cannot."
Second, Silent Circle
"However, we have reconsidered this position. We've been thinking about this for some time, whether it was a good idea at all. Today, another secure email provider, Lavabit, shut down their system lest they 'be complicit in crimes against the American people.' We see the writing the wall, and we have decided that it is best for us to shut down Silent Mail now. We have not received subpoenas, warrants, security letters, or anything else by any government, and this is why we are acting now."
We do not shut down
We heard from someone that our web site "scares" their friends. Run away, scared ones and cover in darkness, or join us and bring in the light: http://www.courtofrecord.org.uk
