All the commandments which I command you this day, take great care to do, that you may live, and multiply, and go in and possess the land which the Lord swore to your fathers. And you will remember the long journey through which the Lord your God brought you forty years through the desert to afflict you, to tempt you, and to make known the things that were in your mind, whether you were to keep his commandments or not. Scarcity afflicted you, and gave you manna to eat, which you and your fathers did not know, to show you that man does not live by bread alone, but by every word that goes out of the mouth of God. Your clothing, which you were wearing, has not worn out by any means by age, and your foot has not been worn, for it is fortieth year You must also consider that just as a man instructs his son, so the Lord your God has taught you that you may keep the commandments of the Lord your God, and walk in his ways, and fear him. For the Lord your God will lead you into a good land, a land of rivers and waters and springs, in whose plains and mountains the depths of rivers break out. a land of corn, barley, and vineyards in which figs, pomegranates, and olive-trees grow; a land of oil and honey, where thou shalt eat thy bread without want, and enjoy the abundance of all things: whose stones are iron, and of her mountains are mined brass so that when you eat and are satisfied, bless the Lord your God for the good land that he has given you. Take heed, and take heed, lest you forget the Lord your God, and ignore his commandments, and his judgments, and his statutes, which I command you this day: lest when you eat and be satisfied, you build beautiful houses and settle in them and your herds of oxen, and flocks of sheep, of silver and of gold, and of all kinds of things, let your heart be lifted up, and remember not the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage, and your guide was in a great and terrible wilderness, in which there was a scorching serpent, and a scorpion, and a drought, and no water at all: which brought up the rivers out of the hardest rock and he fed you with manna in the wilderness, which your fathers did not know. And after he had afflicted and tried, in the end he had compassion on you you should not say in your heart, "My strength and the strength of my hand have achieved all these things to me but you shall remember the LORD your God, that he provided you with strength to fulfill his covenant, which he swore to your fathers, as it is today. But if you forget the Lord your God, you will follow other gods, and serve and worship them. As the nations which the Lord destroyed at your entrance, so you will perish if you will not obey the voice of the Lord your God.
