And departing from thence, we came into the desert, which leads to the Red Sea, as the Lord had said to me: and we passed through mount Seir a long time.

And the Lord said to me

It is enough for you to go around this mountain; go north

And command the people, saying: You are to pass through the border of your brothers the children of Esau, who dwell in Seir, and they will fear you.

Take heed therefore carefully that you do not move against them. For I will not give you out of their land as much as a foot can tread on, because I have given mount Seir to Esau for a possession.

You shall buy food from them for money, and shall eat: you shall also buy water, and shall drink.

The Lord your God has blessed you in all the work of your hands.

And when we had passed by our brothers, the sons of Esau, who dwelt in Seir, by the way of the plain from Elath and from Asiongaber, we came to the road that leads into the desert of Moab.

And the Lord said to me: Fight not against the Moabites, nor go to battle against them: for I will not give thee any of their land, because I have delivered Ar to the children of Lot in possession.

The Emim were the first inhabitants thereof, a people great, and strong, and so tall, as of the race of the Anakims,

They were esteemed as giants, and were like the sons of the Anakims. Finally the Moabites call them Emim.

But the Horrhites first dwelt in Seir: to whom the children of Esau were expelled and destroyed, and dwelt there, just as Israel did in the land of their possession, which the Lord gave to him.

Then rising up to pass the torrent Zared, we came to it.

And the time that we walked from Cadesbarne to the passage of the torrent Zared, was thirty-eight years: until the whole generation of warriors from the camp was consumed, as the Lord had sworn

whose hand was against them, that they should be cut off from the midst of the camp.

And after all the fighting men fell

the Lord spoke to me, saying

You will cross the border of Moab today, a city named Ar

And as you come to the border of the children of Ammon, take heed not to fight against them, nor move you to battle: for I will not give thee of the land of the children of Ammon, because I have given it to the children of Lot for an inheritance.

It was reputed to be the land of the giants: and in it dwelt the giants of old, whom the Ammonites call Zomzommim,

a people great, and numerous, and of tall stature, like the Anakims, whom the Lord destroyed from their presence, and caused them to dwell in their stead,

as he did to the sons of Esau, who dwell in Seir, wiping out the Horrhites, and delivering them their land, which they possess until this present.

The Cappadocians also drove out the Hivites, who dwelt in small villages as far as Gaza: who came out from Cappadocia, and destroyed them, and dwelt in their stead.

Arise, and pass the torrent Arnon: behold I have delivered into your hand Sihon the Amorrhite, king of Hesebon, and his land, begin to possess it, and engage him in battle.

Today I will begin to spread your dread and dread among the people who dwell under all the heavens;

I sent messengers from the desert of Kademoth to Sihon king of Heshbon with peaceable words,

We will pass through your country; we will not turn aside, neither to the right nor to the left.

Sell ​​us meat for a price, that we may eat: give us water for money, and so we will drink. It is only to allow us to pass

as did the sons of Esau, who dwell in Seir, and the Moabites who dwelt in Ar, till we come to the Jordan, and pass over to the land which the Lord our God will give us.

But Sihon king of Heshbon would not allow us to pass by, because the Lord your God had hardened his spirit and fixed his heart to deliver him into your hand, as you now see.

And the Lord said to me: Behold I have begun to deliver Sihon and his land to thee: begin to possess it.

And Sihon came out against us, with all his people, to battle at Jahaz.

And the Lord our God delivered him to us: and we defeated him, and his sons, and all his people.

And we took all the cities at that time, killing the inhabitants of them, men and women and children: we did not leave any thing in them,

besides the beasts that took part in making love, and the spoils of the cities which we took

from Aroer, which is on the bank of the river Arnon, a town that is situated in a valley, as far as Gilead. There was no village or city that escaped our hands: the Lord our God delivered them all to us

besides the land of the Ammonites, to which we came not;
