If a prophet shall rise up in the midst of you, or say that he had a dream, and foretell a sign and a sign,

and it shall come to pass that what he has spoken, and shall say to you: Let us go, and let us follow other gods, which you know not, and we will serve them:

you will not hear the words of that prophet or dreamer: for the Lord your God tempts you, so that it may be made known whether you love him or not, with your whole heart and with your whole soul.

Follow the Lord your God, and fear him, and keep his commandments, and hear his voice: you shall serve him, and cleave to him.

But that prophet or maker of dreams shall be put to death: because he said that he would turn you away from the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, and redeemed you from the house of bondage: that he might make you wander from the way which the Lord your God commanded you; out of your midst.

If your brother wants to convince you, your mother's son, or your son or daughter, or the wife who is in your bosom, or the friend you love as your soul, secretly saying, 'Let's go and serve other gods, whom you and your fathers don't know.' ,

of all the nations round about, which are near or far, from the beginning to the end of the earth,

do not consent to him, nor listen, nor spare your eye to pity him, and hide him

but you shall kill it immediately: your hand shall be on him first, and then shall all the people lay hands on him.

He shall be stoned to death, because he desired to withdraw you from the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage,

that all Israel, upon hearing this, may fear, and will no longer do any thing like this.

If you will hear in one of your cities, which the Lord your God will give you to dwell in, some say,

The children of Belial came out of your midst, and turned away the inhabitants of their city, and said: Let us go, and let us serve other gods, whom you know not:

wherefore carefully and diligently, having examined the truth of the matter, if you find that what is said is certain, and that this abomination has been committed in deed

You shall immediately strike the inhabitants of that city with the edge of the sword, and destroy it, and all that is in it, even the cattle.

You shall gather in the midst of the streets, and you shall burn with the city itself, so that you shall consume all to the Lord your God, and it shall be an everlasting mound. It will not be built anymore

and no anathema of him will cleave to you in your hand; that the Lord may turn away from the fierceness of his anger, and have mercy on you, and multiply you, as he swore to your fathers,

when you shall obey the voice of the LORD your God, and keep all his statutes, which I command you this day, to do what is right in the sight of the LORD your God.
