These are the statutes and judgments, which you shall do in the land which the Lord the God of your fathers gives you, to possess it as long as you shall land. Destroy all the places in which the nations which you shall possess have worshiped their gods, upon the high mountains and the hills, and under every green tree. Destroy their altars, and break their statues: burn their groves with fire, and destroy their idols: destroy their names from those places. You shall not do so to the Lord your God but to the place which the Lord your God shall choose out of all your tribes, to put his name there, and to dwell therein, you shall come: and you shall offer in that place your holocausts and victims, your tithes and firstfruits of your hands, and your vows and gifts, the firstborn of your oxen and of your sheep. And you shall eat it there in the sight of the Lord your God, and you shall rejoice in all the things to which you put your hand, and your houses, in which the Lord your God has blessed you. You will not do there the things that we are doing here today, each one that seems right to him for you have not until now come to the rest and to the possession which the Lord your God will give you. You shall pass over the Jordan, and dwell in the land which the Lord your God will give you, that you may rest from all the enemies on every side: and you shall dwell safely in the place which the Lord your God shall choose, that his name may be in him: thither shall you offer all that I command, the holocausts, and the sacrifices, and the tithes, and the firstfruits of your hands: and whatsoever is the chief thing in the gifts which you shall vow to the Lord. There you shall feast before the Lord your God, you and your sons and your daughters, your menservants and maidservants, and the Levite who is residing in your cities, for he has no other share or possession among you. Take care that you do not offer your burnt offerings in every place you see but in the one whom the Lord shall choose, you shall offer sacrifices in one of your tribes, and do whatever I command you. But if you will eat, and the eating of the flesh delights you, kill, and eat according to the blessing of the Lord your God, which he gave you in your cities; it is lawful for it to be offered, as the roe deer and the deer will eat without eating only the blood which you will pour on the earth as water. You shall not be able to eat in your towns the tithe of the corn, of your wine, of your oil, of your herds and of cattle, of whatever you vow, or of your own accord, and of the firstfruits of your hands. but before the Lord your God you shall eat in the place which the Lord your God shall choose, you and your son, and your daughter, and your servant, and your maidservant, and the Levite who dwells in your cities. thou shalt stretch out thy hand. Take heed that you do not forsake the Levite as long as you live in the land. When the Lord your God shall enlarge your borders, as he promised you, and you shall eat the flesh which your soul desires: And the place which the Lord your God shall choose, that his name may be there: if it shall be far off, you shall kill of the herds and cattle which you have, as I have commanded you, and you shall eat in your towns, as it pleases you. As the roe deer and the hart eat, so shall you eat: and the clean and unclean shall eat it common. Take heed only of this, lest you should eat blood: for their blood is for the soul, and therefore you ought not to eat the soul with the flesh: but upon the earth thou shalt pour it like water that it may be well with you and your children after you, when you do what is pleasing in the sight of the Lord. And you shall take the things which you have sanctified and vow to the Lord, and you shall come to the place which the Lord shall choose: and you shall offer your flesh and blood on the altar of the LORD your God; you shall pour the blood of the sacrifices upon the altar; but you shall eat the flesh. Take heed and listen to all that I command you, so that it may be well with you and your children after you forever, when you do what is right and right in the sight of the Lord your God. When the Lord your God destroyed before you the nations into which you were going to possess them, and you possessed them, and dwelt in their land, take heed that you do not imitate them, after they have been overthrown at the entrance of you, and inquire after their ceremonies, saying, As these nations worshiped their gods, so will I also worship. You shall not do the same to the Lord your God. For all the abominations which the Lord turns away from, they have done to their gods, offering sons and daughters, and burning them with fire. That which I command thee, only do this to the Lord: add not any thing, nor diminish it.
